I was born on the island of Jamaica, but I currently reside in South Carolina. My love for writing began many years ago during college. However, it wasn’t until the birth of my son that I started writing for children. It was difficult for me to find inspiring children's books with black characters, so I decided to create stories for my son and other children his age. I wrote books that were fun to read, but also promoted conversation between parent/teacher and child.

My company, 123 Mango Tree LLC, promotes literacy through reading, music, and art. I love creating children's books that empower and motivate children to learn and read. I think it's important for African American children's authors to create multicultural children's books for all readers to enjoy.

My goal is to encourage all parents to start reading to their children as soon as they enter the world, and to make reading a part of their daily routine. This is essential because sharing books with children at an early age helps them to develop language skills, begin enjoying books, and starts them on a path to reading for themselves.

I’ve spent the last several years promoting literacy by visiting local schools and giving books to children. I will continue to write great children's books that engage kids and build their love for reading at an early age.

Early Literacy Workshop
This program is designed for future and current parents who want to learn how to develop an early literacy program for their child. The program also discusses how to build a child's mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual health.

Self-Publishing 101
This workshop provides insight into the world of self-publishing. Participants will learn how self-publishing works, how to format a book, and how to understand printing terms and specification so that they can publish their own high-quality book. Participants will also learn how to avoid the many pitfalls that plague self-publishers. I've worked as a consultant and graphic designer for various publishing companies and authors for the past 12 years, so I have learned the ins and outs of publishing. I'll also draw on my experience of self-publishing seven of my own books.

Last Night I Dreamt Workshop
This workshop teaches the basic fundamentals of writing and illustrating a book by giving children the opportunity to create their own books. The books they create are a positive reflection of themselves, their abilities, and their hopes and dreams. They are encouraged to use their books as motivation to achieve their goals. First — Third grades.
